Evans Creek Trail (to Beatrice Lake) 2016

The second of the Friends of West Kootenay Parks 2016 work parties took place June 29th and 30th in Valhalla Provincial Park on the Beatrice Lake trail. In consultation with BC Parks, this trail was selected due to the windfall on the first two km of trail and because the trail starts at a popular boat-in campsite . Capitalizing on the good weather, 4 members boated to the campsite/trailhead) on the afternoon of 28th to have a leisurely evening and morning. On the morning of the 29th, 3 more members were delivered by the BC Parks boat. After clarifying the work to be done and a safety briefing, BC Parks left for other work and the Friends started clearing windfall and brushing the trail. By late afternoon the trail was more or less cleared about halfway to Emerald Lake (2 km) and a motion to go for a swim in Slocan Lake was passed and quickly implemented. Following a pleasant evening at the campsite, BC Parks arrived the following morning with 3 more members and by late afternoon the 4 km of trail to Emerald Lake had been cleared. The swim in the lake was hastily repeated after which BC Parks arrived to pick us up to return to Slocan city. A gratifying and fun work experience in a lovely setting. Many thanks to the participants and to BC Parks for the boat transportation. Thanks also to the Trails Committee (Dave Smith, Fred Thiessen and Roland Perrin) for organizing the work party.
