Kokanee Creek Spawning Channel Signs
In 2013, Friends of West Kootenay Parks member Ursula Lowrey took on the updating of the signage along the spawning channel in Kokanee Creek Provincial Park. The spawning of the Kokanee salmon is a yearly event that attracts locals, tourists and is a focus of a well attended school program run by interpreter Nancie Dohan and her staff. Late in August, the Redfish Festival focuses on the salmon and celebrates this final stage in the Kokanee life cycle as the fish come back to spawn and die.
Ursula spent the winter of 2013/2014 doing research, assembling photographs and working with Speedpro Signs to design and produce the following series of descriptive and attactive signs.
