About Us

The Friends of West Kootenay Parks Society registered as a non-profit society in 1988. In 1993, the society registered as a Canadian charitable society. Since then, the purposes of the Friends of West Kootenay Parks have been:
  • To support BC Parks mandate of protection, preservation and presentation of the natural resources within the West Kootenay district Provincial Parks.
  • To supplement the Parks' Interpretation and Visitor Services Programs within the District and to promote educational opportunities within that framework.
  • To facilitate promotions, public programs, school programs and special events compatible with the Parks natural environment and the approved objectives for the Parks. To enter into agreements with BC Parks for the operation of sales outlets and to develop high quality, Parks related publications and products for sale at the Park and elsewhere.
  • To accept donations, bequests and gifts which will be used to further the objectives of the Society.
Since 1988, the Friends of West Kootenay Parks have participated in major efforts to restore, maintain and manage the cultural assets of the parks in the West Kootenay region. We have worked with BC Parks as their mandate has evolved over the years and we hope that you will join us to support BC Parks in the future.
