Trails

After consultation with BC Parks to determine the best use of volunteer time, the Friends work on maintaining and rehabilitating trails in West Kootenay Parks. In the past, we have brushed trails in Kokanee Creek Provincial Park and the trail up to Pilot Bay Lighthouse. In the fall of 2013, crews working on successive weekends spent time brushing the Woodbury Creek trail while rangers removed deadfall. Since the fire, the brush has had perfect conditions for growth so there was lots of work. Thanks to Eric Sargent, Dave Smith, Maurice de St Jorre and Bill Bryce. In 2014, a youth crew from the Kaslo & District Community Forest Society went back in over two days and cleared out new growth and finished to the trail up to the Woodbury Cabin. They also spent time working on the Silver Spray Trail. A special Trails Committee has been struck that will liase with local BC Parks staff and determine which trails could use attention from volunteer crews. If you are not (yet) a member of the Friends and are interested in participating, please send your name and contact information to contactus@fwkp.ca and it will be forwarded to the committee.
